One of the most important technological trends in contemporary agriculture is spatially-variable
crop production, unfortunately commonly known by the vague non-descriptive term “precision
agriculture”. Spatially-variable crop production obviously is the management of crop production while
understanding and acting upon the spatial variability that is inherent in growing crops. This has been a
group of technologies which has seen great research efforts and substantial, although not majority,
commercial adoption. The technologies hold out the promise of reducing crop production costs and
environmental impacts.
